About the ship:
The Kapitan Dranitsyn is a powerful, conventional propelled icebreaker, built in March 1980 at a shipyard in Wartsila, Finland. Not just an ice-strengthened ship, the Kapitan Dranitsyn is a powerful Russian icebreaker designed for working in the conditions of the Arctic region and the Baltic Sea. The ship is equipped with the most advanced satellite navigation system and communication facilities, including the convenience of phone and e-mail. The Russian captains are acknowledged experts in polar expeditions, and will make sure your voyage is both thrilling and safe. The “open-deck policy” will enable you to visit the navigation bridge at almost any hour of the day, allowing you to observe the crew at work, and enjoy the view from the deck. The Kapitan Dranitsyn carries zodiac craft and a helicopter, both of which allow for a better view of the fjords and icebergs up close. In 1999, she was upgraded in Norway, and got a passenger vessel certificate. In 1996 the vessel completed its first Polar circumnavigation, a route that was repeated in 1999 and 2000.
