Iceland on Horseback - Horse Roundup

Day 1: Íshestar Riding Center - Reykjavík
You will be transferred from the Keflavík Airport to the Íshestar Riding Center where you will take an introduction riding tour to the Mt. Helgafell Volcano. After the ride, you can enjoy traditional Icelandic soup and will receive details of the tour at the guesthouse in Reykjavík. (10 km/6.2 mi)
Day 2: Reykjavík - Dæli Holiday Farm
You will drive north and meet the guides and horses at Bjargshóll Farm. The first day of riding will take you through beautiful Fitjárdalur and Víðidalur, each one containing its own salmon fishing river. You will then cross the river Víðidalsá and end at Dæli Holiday Farm, close to Kolugil canyon, beautifully located in Víðidalur Valley. Accommodation for the next three nights will be at the farm. (30 km/18.6 mi)
Day 3: Víðidalstungheiði - Dæli Holiday Farm
Today, you will ascend toward the highland plateau Víðidalstunguheiði and meet the horses coming down from their pastures in the highlands. You can enjoy a warm lunch at a mountain shelter before joining the farmers in driving the herd down from the mountains. Before ending the ride at Dæli Farm, you will stop at Kolugili Farm for refreshments. Following dinner, you can spend time with the farmers and other guests in Dæli, joining in their singing and celebrating of this great Fall event. (36 km/22.3 mi, 8-9 hours including lunch and coffee breaks)
Day 4: Víðidalstungurétt- Dæli Holiday Farm
The day will start at Víðidalstungurétt where the horses will be sorted out. An auction will be held right on the spot and you can join the farmers in their joyful singing, celebrating the return of their horses. In the afternoon, you will ride back to Bjargshóll Farm and return the horses to their meadows, before driving back to Dæli for a hearty dinner. (30 km/18.6 mi)
Optional (not included in the tour price, please see the Dates and Prices section): 'Stóðréttardansleikur' dance at Víðihlíð, where everybody can relax after the excitement of the day and celebrate yet another successful roundup.
Day 5: Reykjavík
You will return to Reykjavík, visiting a factory outlet with woolen goods on the way.
Optional (not included in the tour price, please ask us for prices): A drive to the Blue Lagoon for bathing in the blue-colored mineral rich water will be offered for those interested.
Day 6: Departure from Iceland
You will be transferred to the Keflavík Airport in time for your return flight home.
