Iceland on Horseback - Rivers & Geysers

Day 1: Reykjavík - Fossnes Farm
You will transfer from Reykjavík, via Thingvellir National Park, to Fossnes Farm, where you will meet the horses and guides. After an introduction to the Icelandic horse and its special gait, you will start the ride along pleasant trails and explore the colorful Gnúpverjahreppur countryside. During the ride, you can enjoy the view of deep green mountains and valleys, and the mighty glacial river Thjórsá. You will have the opportunity to relax in a hot tub before a hearty dinner at the farm. (20 km/12.4 mi)
Day 2: Hvítárdalur - Fossnes Farm
Heading off to the fertile farmlands of neighboring community Hrunamannahreppur, you will cross the well known salmon river Stóra-Laxá, and stop for a picnic lunch at Hrunaréttir, a pen for the annual sheep round-up in autumn. You will take hand horses along and change your mount a couple of times during the day, giving you the opportunity to travel at a comfortable speed. The horses will stay at Hvítárdalur Farm and you will drive back to Fossnes for the night. (40 km/24.8 mi)
Day 3: Fossnes Farm - Geysir Guesthouse
The ride will continue on soft trails ideal for tölting (the gait of the Icelandic horse) toward the majestic canyon Brúarhlöð, where milky green water passes through bizarre rock formations. Alongside the Hvítá River, you will follow the ever deepening canyon to the impressive golden waterfall Gullfoss, and then continue to the famous Geysir Hot Spring area. You will stay here for two nights, allowing for plenty of time to explore this highly interesting area and its countless bubbling hot springs, and enjoy the outdoor hot tub. (40 km/24.8 mi)
Day 4: Haukadalur - Geysir Guesthouse
As you ride through Haukadalur and its beautiful birch forest, you will cross clear little streams and can enjoy the rich vegetation of wild mountain flowers that bloom during high summer. Ascending to a highland plateau, you will notice the changes in nature as you reach higher ground. A breathtaking view of the mountain ranges and glaciers of the highland will await you at the top of Haukadalsheiði. Accommodations will be at the Geysir Guesthouse. (25 km/15.5 mi)
Day 5: Reykjavík
Today you will leave the horses and drive back to Reykjavík.
