Iceland on Horseback - Forest and Lava

Day 1: Arrival in Iceland
After arriving in Keflavik, you will be transferred to a guesthouse in Reykjavík. You will then attend a welcome meeting which will include traditional Icelandic soup, a chance to meet your fellow riders, and details of the tour.

Day 2: Reykjavík - Saltvík Holiday Farm
You will fly to Akureyri, drive to Saltvík Farm, and then ride into the mountains along the river Laxá to the highland plateau Hvammsheiði. Your overnight stay will be at the Saltvík Farm, where an outdoor hot tub will be waiting. (20 km/12.4 mi)

Day 3: Laxárdalur - Jarðböð
While riding to Laxárdalur valley, named after a famous salmon river, you will follow the river all the way to Lake Mývatn for an overnight stay at the guesthouse Vogar, situated in beautiful surroundings near the lake. You will then take a bus tour, around Lake Mývatn, famous for its geological wonders and rich bird life. You can enjoy a nice hot bath in a geothemal outdoor pool at Jarðböð. (40 km/24.8 mi)

Day 4: Jarðböð - Guesthouse Kiðagil
As you continue toward Mt. Sandfell, through the valleys of Engidalur and Bárðardalur, you will follow excellent riding paths and can see the Odáðahraun lava field, the largest in Iceland. Overnight will be spent at the Guesthouse Kiðagil on the banks of the glacial river Skjálfandafljót. (35 km/21.7 mi)

Day 5: Kiðagil - Saltvík Holiday Farm
You will follow Bárðardalur valley toward the magnificent waterfall at Goðafoss, riding along part of the river banks as you approach Fellsskógur forest. The horses will rest at the farm in Torfunes while you drive to Saltvík for your overnight stay. (45 km/27.9 mi)

Day 6: Aðaldalshraun - Saltvík Holiday Farm
You will enjoy a last riding day through beautiful landscape characterized by rich birch forest and the vast lava fields of Aðaldalshraun. You will cross the Hvammsheiði heath before taking the horses home to the Saltvík farm for an overnight stay and a soak in the outdoor hot tub. (35 km/21.7 mi)

Please note there will be the option (at an additional charge) to board a boat in Húsavík harbor and embark on a whale watching cruise. Please ask us for prices.

Day 7: Reykjavík
You will return to Akureyri and fly back to Reykjavík, where you will spend the night in a guesthouse.

Day 8: Departure from Iceland
You will be transferred by bus to Keflavík Airport in plenty of time for your return flight home.
