Lofoten Islands Sailing Expedition

Day 1: After a drive of an hour by scheduled bus* from the airport at Evenes, you will board the tall ship Noorderlicht in the evening in the harbor of Lødingen.
Day 2 & 3: You will spend two full days in the Tysfjord area, looking for groups of orcas which hunt in these fjords for herring. You will also take an excursion to see petroglyphs from the Stone Age, depicting orcas at Leiknes. At Skarvberget, you will have the opportunity to climb a hill, where you can watch sea eagles catching herring in the fjord. On one of the evenings, you will visit the orca information center, where you can get additional information about the whales.
Day 4: Today, the ship will sail into Vestfjord, which is a great area to observe orcas and other whales, and arrive at Henningsvaer, the Norwegian Venice, where the ship will overnight.
Day 5: You will visit Kabelvaag, a cozy historical town that is the home of the Lofoten aquarium and museum. There may be time to visit the aquarium. Later, the ship will sail into Trollfjord Raftsund, said to be one of the most spectacular fjords of Norway, and spend the night somewhere in the area.
Day 6: The ship will work its way back through Vestfjorden, looking for orcas. You may also visit Hamaroy, home of the Knut Hamsun Museum, or Ofotfjord, to spot more orcas.
Day 7: Today, you will sail into the harbor of Lødingen. Near Lødingen at Hustadgaard in Vestbygd, you will see the “øye I stein”, a sculpture of 37 tons made by the Indian artist Anish Kapoor. In the same area, at Nes in Kanstadfjord, you can admire the historical rock paintings (9,000 years old) near the remains of Stone Age dwellings.
Day 8: You will disembark in Lødingen in the morning and, from there, you can take a scheduled local bus* to the airport at Evenes.
