Iceland on Horseback - Sheep Roundup
6 days - Sep - From US $ 1,074

The Icelandic sheep round-up is a tradition that has its roots deep in the past, when pastures and fields near the farms were precious and had to be kept for the hay harvest. Saddle up and join the farmers in southern Iceland as they gather the thousands of sheep from the mountains, experiencing the Icelandic horses at their best--sure-footed and eager to fulfill the task set for them every autumn. After a day of herding sheep, you will be a part of the festivities as the farmers celebrate the end to another successful herding.

But this adventure is not all about work--atop the majestic Icelandic horse, whose special gait, known as the tölt, is wonderfully suited for the riding trails, you will visit the many sights of the area such as the beautiful Gjáin valley, the majestic waterfalls Gullfoss and Hjálparfoss, the famous geyser hot spring area, and Thingvellir National Park. This adventure combines work and play, all the while surrounding you with the beauty and majesty of Iceland.
